Wigan Athletic's James McArthur has said that the Scottish national team should be wary of the threat from Michael Carrick, who he thinks is one of the best players in England right now. Former Tottenham star Carrick helped Manchester United win the league title last season.

He almost went unnoticed as he won the club's player of the year award. He was also nominated in the PFA award list as well. Carrick will be in the midfield of England when they take on Scotland in a friendly match at the new Wembley stadium.

Scotland midfielder McArthur, who has come up against Carrick on a number of occasions when playing for Wigan, has identified the 30-year-old as the important player in England's squad. He even considered as Carrick to be on the same level as Gareth Bale and Luis Suarez, who have been valued in excess of £ 50 million by their clubs respectively. McArthur has said that Carrick has been under the radar in the last few years, but he has been able to spot the quality of the England international.

McArthur will be making his third appearance at Wembley. He has won all the matches at this extravagant stadium including the 1-0 win over Manchester city in the FA Cup final last season.

“England have good players all through their squad. But the one who stands out is Carrick. He is a brilliant player and the job he does for Manchester United in midfield is second to none. He was my vote for Player of the Year last season and that’s despite Bale and Suarez being in there. Michael has been a bit under-rated but finally received recognition last season. A lot of people now talk about how good he is," said McArthur.
He has also expressed his delight at being able to play at Wembley once again.
