Manchester United have been one of the few clubs to have a long history in European football. It has made their European nights even more special, which is also the opinion of the midfielder Michael Carrick as well.

United will be preparing for yet another great European night when they take on the Spanish giants Real Madrid in the last 16 stage of the Champions League. United come into the match on the back of the 1-1 draw in the first leg, which gives them the advantage to play both defensively and with an attacking nature. The former Tottenham midfielder Michael Carrick has established himself as one of the important players at the club over the last few years.

He is once again excited to play a key role in the match. Carrick has said that the European nights are extremely special because of the atmosphere and the fact that players are looking forward to playing in it. This match is also crucial for several reasons because it will be the first time Madrid will be playing at Old Trafford for almost a decade, while the match will also see the return of the former United winger Cristiano Ronaldo. Carrick has praised the Portuguese international ahead of the match.

"These are the nights you live for. There is just something in the air, something special. Everyone comes with a spring in their step. Every supporter is that little bit more vocal. Everyone is a little bit more up for it. Everyone is looking forward to it and can't wait for the game to come. Hopefully we play like we know we can and get the result we want. The fans appreciate how important it is and what it means to get through in this competition," said Carrick, who has made 27 appearances so far.
